I was walking down life's highway

a long, long time ago.

One day I saw a sign that read,

As I got a little closer, the door opened wide,

and I found myself standing inside.

I saw a host of ANGELS.

They were standing everywhere.

One handed me a basket and said,

"My Child, shop with care."

Everything a human needed

was in that grocery store.

And if you couldn't carry it all,

you could come back the next day for more.

First, I got some PATIENCE.

LOVE was in the same row.

Further down was UNDERSTANDING,

you need that everywhere you go.

I got a box or two of WISDOM,

a bag or two of FAITH.

I just couldn't miss the HOLY GHOST,

for it was all over the place.

I stopped to get some STRENGTH and COURAGE

TO HELP ME RUN THIS RACE.

By then my basket was getting full,

but I remembered I needed some GRACE.

I didn't forget SALVATION,

for SALVATION was free.

So I tried to get enough of that

to save both you and me.

Then I started up to the counter

to pay my grocery bill.

For I thought I had everything

to do the MASTER'S will.

As I went up the aisle, I saw PRAYER;

and I just had to put that in,

for I knew when I stepped outside,

I would run into sin.

PEACE and JOY were plentiful;

they were last on the shelf.

SONG and PRAISE were hanging near,

so I just helped myself.

Then I said to the angel,

"Now, how much do I owe?"

He smiled again and said, "MY CHILD,

JESUS PAID YOUR BILL A LONG, LONG TIME AGO.

I read this poem 8 years ago and liked it since then. I had a copy in POOH's room which we bought at Papemeloroti in manila. It's a very nice poem and you can relate to it. Special thanks to the author of this poem who wrote it. Credits all for him.

~living up with a dream *~

For the past year and a half, I have been focused on one thing: becoming a nurse. It started as a childhood dream and has found its way into my heart as a determination to continue to learn and develop as a person and to constantly seek ways to help others. In the last year of working toward my goal of becoming a nursing professional at Butuan Doctors' Collegel I have learned many things. One of which is how necessary it is for student nurses to have an accurate perception of what nursing a truly entails. Also how important it is as a nurse to have solid, critical, thinking skills, and to be able to grow as a nurse and student using both negative and positive feedback.

I feel that my experience in pre-clinical exposure at Butuan Doctors' Hospital has given me a very accurate perception of nursing in general. This is important because as a nursing student knowing the amount of responsibilities lying ahead will motivate me to fulfill those responsibilities. Furthermore, knowing how broad of a field nursing is, that the time I spend in the nursing program will be some of the most intense and challenging education I will receive. Knowing what nursing entails, makes students take their education more seriously and work harder to meet the demands they will inevitably face.

Being able to grow as nursing student involves being able to take in feedback both negative and positive and use it in a constructive way. For instance, in my CHN evaluation exam I received a poor result on my first paper. Instead of brooding over the negative feedback or complaining about my grade as is the easier response. I used it as a means to improve. And when I have my second paper, I received a good result. Positive feedback is also an important tool for growth. Many may see receiving something positive as accomplishing your end destination. However, I see it as a chance to examine what made you successful and why you achieved what you did.

I have learned how important it is to use any feedback you receive as a means to improve, and the importance of having solid critical thinking skills combined with an accurate perception of nursing, I hope I will have the chance to receive the education necessary to accomplish my goals. I am driven to become a nursing professional and hope that I can have that opportunity here at Butuan Doctors' College.

"Learning The Healer's Art"

People are always asking the question: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” As children we say with full confidence, “an astronaut” or “a movie star.” The first time I remember being asked that question I was sure that I wanted to be a nurse, though I was only eight at the time. While growing up, a lot of things caught my attention so I never thought about being a nurse someday. As high school came to an end and becoming a “grown up” seemed closer each day, my long lost childhood dreams came back into focus, and I realized what I had to do, I had to go to school to become a nurse.I want to be different, I am trying so hard to do my best to pursue and accomplish this dream of mine in hopes that I do have the opportunity to be successful someday.

As an individual reaches the stage where they come to a decision about what they want to be in life, they must look deep inside themselves. They have to reflect on what is important to them and what makes them happy. When I first started at Butuan Doctors' College, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I chose nursing because it’s a good career, a childhood dream, and I won’t have to struggle my whole life to find a job and pay the bills. It was an actual career, not a job. Plus, I knew it would be pretty easy to find work. There’s a major shortage of nurses, and the need for all medical professionals is expected to keep increasing.

Nursing is much harder than I thought, especially all the "critical thinking" questions on the tests. You can't just memorize, because the questions are all about application of knowledge. You really have to know it. The first semester, I spent all my time reading every single assigned page plus supplemental reading. I thought the instructors wanted us to know every single iota about medications, diseases, and techniques: they didn't. About a quarter of the way through the second semester I realized they weren't testing me on how much voluminous information I could retain, but on whether I understood the fundamentals and could apply them in the various health care settings. Ever since I realized this, I was eager to do my best in everything.

It is like learning the Healer's Art...

There are bumps, ups and downs in life yet I am still standing tall and ready to take the challenge and be challenge in any way. I never thought I have a future ahead (*devil smile*) but I know that we all have. What I truly learned from my first year at BDC is that I should never stop learning and it requires so much hard work and discipline to me to reach the dream that i ever wanted.. :D

There is Always a RainBow after a Rain

No one likes to be caught in a storm. However, it may be worth it if it results in a wondrous rainbow. Life is full of storms and rainbows. Many of the storms are of our own making, and if we look about, we may discover a trail of devastation that we have left behind. Our unwarranted outbursts, cruel criticisms, selfish acts, jealous rages, and shameful behavior are storms, which leave in their wake countless victims. Stunned by the havoc, our victims stand in silence, waiting for a rainbow. The rainbow they expect to experience is our apology. If we created a storm, isn't producing a rainbow the least we can do? Shouldn't we apologize for our misdeeds?

Our apologies should be swift, sweeping, and sincere. That is, they should be made as quickly as possible, be complete, and come from the heart...

When you make the effort to right a wrong, you reap joy, and when you neglect to do so, you harvest regret. So, apologize and experience happiness instead of regret.

Based in my own experience, for the very first time i was caught in a storm-a really great storm. It's not a big big problem anyway but the way I see it is that it's way way too big to handle. Honestly, I am not perfect and so are you but we are given chances to correct things. I lied to a person who is very dear to me. The reason why I did it, I was soo scared to tell the truth. For almost three days, i was crying, isolating my self to the outside world, eating just 1 meal in a day, and have been stress out because of that storm. It's not easy to say sorry even if you really mean it... The word "Sorry" might appear to us as a simple word but I tell you it is not. It is more than that. I know that it will come just like how PAGASA predicts if there is storm. It's not that bad after all because I learned things like when you are really down, God is always there for you to help you, friends in the other side will also give you advices and thoughts for you to actually realize. But what made me really believe is that God really answers our prayers. I've been praying 3 times a day calling out His name just for Him to see that I really mean it when I said "sorry" to Him. I asked for help on how to make things right and He did. He taught me how to solved problems on my own and if i needed Him- he is just a prayer away. Through this, my faith becomes strong and firm. I know God helped me ironed things out and soften the heart of the person affected. The storm has ended and saw a rainbow. I was forgiven. And now as I looked back, a thought came into my mind that a lie may take care of the present, but it has no future...

My Unforgettable Character

I once asked myself, "Is there someone who have helped me at difficult moments and inspired me and shown me paths that had to be traveled?".That question keeps on bothering me lately so I decided to write what I think about having an unforgettable character.

What does that mean? It is the one who influences you most of your life :))

One of the characters that has profoundly made an impact on me is my Lola. You see, while growing up, she taught me to reach for the highest possible things I could reach for and fed my intellect with the best education she could afford. Yet she also taught me to reach high without lifting the soles of my feet. She fed me with the awareness of real life by bringing me to some streets of Butuan, where houses were made of wood and kids had their faces covered with flies.

On my journey now, I choked to see those memories flooded through me, and have realized how much she had shaped me to where I am today.

I’m doing well today, yet I know that I need a sense of humility from time to time. The humility that doing well on my own is just not good enough when many people are still suffering and I have not used my power to change that. Every step I make, my Lola is in my spirit. Being my conscience that “we are not here for ourselves alone”.

Shattered Dreams

To dream does not cost anything.
You can do it whenever you want. Wherever you want. You can always justify those moments, even if they don’t need to be justify at all by the way they make you feel good.

Dreams are shattered or broken by the compromise but still people should believe in dreams. Dreams is very complicated terminology and it has wide range of opinions and books about it. Similar to love, faith, hope and religion.

Broken is nothing, dreams can never be broken. Dream is far bigger vision of human mind which are hanging like stars in the night. The dream can vary and the dream could be different.When dreams are broken then human are not longer controlled by the power of soul, then the mind can rule over, then the changes can be seen.

Paulo Coelho once said, ‘There are many obstacles along the way and only those that are able to keep their faith will be able to reach the shore of their ideal.’

FinDing The Way

We may think at times that the only thing life offers us tomorrow, is to repeat everything we did today. But if we pay close attention, we will see that no two days are alike.
Each morning brings a hidden blessing; a blessing which is unique to that day, and which cannot be kept or re-used. If we do not use this miracle today, it will be lost.

This miracle is in the small things of daily life; we must live in the understanding that at every moment there is a way out of each problem, the way of finding that which is missing, the right clue to the decision which must be taken in order to change our entire future.
But how to find the courage for this? As I see it, God speaks to us through signs. It is an individual language which requires faith and discipline in order to be fully absorbed.

HOPELESSLY, THOROUGHLY SMITTEN

Hi, _____.

This is the silliest thing I've done in a while, but I had an unfathomable, irresistible, self-indulgent urge to express something to you, and to do so in a way that wouldn't cause either of us too much discomfort or embarrassment.

I confess: You. Are. Magnetic. I am hopelessly, thoroughly smitten. Your charm, intelligence and charisma slay me. Plus, you're really sweet and cute. [Sigh.] If the world was a simpler place, I might have just approached you and said something like, "Hey, _____, I have the hugest crush on you. No big deal, really. Just wanted you to know ... I'll be on my way now." That way I could have gotten it off my chest, and you probably would have been a little flattered. A win-win situation. But as we know, the circumstances of real life are often unforgiving and complicated. So I couldn't bring myself to do something so bold. And it's for the better, no? This is a safer, less compromising win-win situation. Maybe it's even kind of fun; it is for me, anyway.

Admittedly, this is an odd thing to do, but I swear it's innocent. I hope that, at the very least, this revelation will brighten your day a little. I'll see you around.
